Israel Conservatory of Music Tel Aviv

Michael is a well-known tenor who has appeared at opera houses all around the world. This is his first visit to Israel where he will share his many years of experience both with the singers and the audience. Schade will be directing the young singers, where he will share his insights into the operatic repertoire.

One of the leading tenors of our time, German-Canadian Michael Schade is a regular guest on international opera and concert stages. Recent operatic highlights include his role debut as Eisenstein/Die Fledermaus at the Vienna State Opera and Aegisth/Elektra in a new production at the Canadian Opera Company. He has a wide concert repertoire, ranging from Bach’s Cantatas and Passions to Mahler’s Lied von der Erde and he works with the most renowned orchestras and conductors such as Bychkov, Chailly, Harding, Jansons, Jordan, Manacorda, Mehta, Muti, Nagano, Nézet-Séguin, Rattle, Thielemann, Ticciati and Welser-Möst, with whom has made some well-received recordings.

Furthermore, his musical activities have been strongly influenced by his close artistic relationship with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Song recitals have taken him to Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, La Scala in Milano, New York’s Alice Tully Hall, the Carnegie Hall and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. During the 2017/2018 season, he was Artist in Residence at Vienna ́s Konzerthaus. In 2007, the Republic of Austria appointed Michael Schade as Austrian Kammersänger.

Michael Schade is the artistic director of the Hapag-Lloyd Stella Maris Vocal Competition and from 2012 to 2014, he was the artistic director of the Internationale Barocktage Stift Melk (Austria). In 2017 he was granted the title Officer to the Order of Canada
